Chris founded Laurus Investment Counsel in 2014 with a vision of a firm focused on client wealth creation through prudent risk-averse investing, exceptional client relationships, and a culture that fosters independent thought. As Chief Investment Officer, he is responsible for leading the growth of the firm and management of the business. For over thirty years, Chris has held a number of senior roles including President and CIO of a boutique equity firm, Director and COO of a mid‐sized investment counsel, and Director of Institutional Investment for a large insurance company.
Chris has been engaged by a variety of pension committees and charitable organizations over the years, and just left the Canadian Olympic Committee in April 2015 following twelve years of service. Chris and his wife Cheryl are avid tennis players, golfers, and cyclists and are generally active outdoors.
As Portfolio Manager, Linda is engaged in shaping the strategy and direction of Laurus’ equity portfolios for optimal performance within the process and risk framework of the firm’s philosophy. Linda previously served as Portfolio Manager of US Equities at a wealth management firm in Toronto. Prior to that she was an equity analyst at a Toronto boutique brokerage covering Canadian industrial products and special situations. She is a CFA charterholder and has completed numerous courses in the CICBV’s Chartered Business Valuator program.
Outside the office, Linda is a voracious reader of nonfiction, especially biography and history, and enjoys hiking on Ontario’s many beautiful nature trails with her husband Barry.
Dennis has been active in the investment industry since 1971. His original degree in Chemical Engineering (1965) was followed by an MBA in 1970 and he is a CFA charterholder. After five years in the chemical business, Dennis spent the 1970’s at A.E. Ames & Co. before moving to Elliot & Page in 1980. In 1984 he was the first addition to the Trimark investment team, remaining until 1994 when he left to form Chescott Investment Management Inc. Chescott was merged into Bluewater in 1996. After Bluewater’s principal client, Mackenzie Financial, moved their mutual fund assets in-house at the beginning of 2016, Dennis opted to transfer his registration and client assets to Laurus Investment Counsel Inc.
Dennis is married to Denny, his wife for 40+ years; they have three grown-up children and enjoy their seven grandchildren at their country property in King, Ontario. Dennis is an avid squash and tennis player, and enjoys skiing and golf opportunistically.
Raymond joined Laurus in March 2015 as a small cap portfolio analyst. Prior to Laurus, he was with Manulife Financial for seven years, more recently as Director, Investment Research and Analysis managing a platform investment strategies for institutional and retail markets. Raymond graduated from the Rotman School of Management in 2014 with a Master of Finance degree and is a CFA charterholder.
Born and raised in Toronto, Ray currently resides on the Danforth with his wife Bronwyn and their two children. As a tech-minded individual, Ray enjoys exploring new gadgets and keeping up to date with the latest technologies. He enjoys spending time outdoors, especially barbecuing, and with his children at the neighbourhood playground.
Tony’s responsibility is to serve as the primary liaison between the Company and our clients and custodians, including the management of all portfolio accounting and fund administration, portfolio reconciliations, compliance-related reporting, securities settlement and performance reporting. Prior to joining Laurus Investments Tony held similar positions with several large investment and advisory firms throughout the GTA gaining experience in the financial services industry for over 25 years.
Tony, his wife Luana and their two children have resided in the Town of Oakville since 1988. Tony’s passion for the game of football (soccer) has led to years of continuous play as well as involvement within the Oakville Soccer Club, volunteering as coach at all levels. He enjoys music, cooking and riding the emotional rollercoaster as a fan of his blue shirted heroes, Toronto Maple Leafs.
Before joining Laurus in 2016, Silvana spent 8 years at Bluewater Investment Management Inc. with responsibility for private client accounts. Silvana’s primary responsibility at Laurus is to serve as liaison for our private clients including portfolio accounting, administration, compliance reporting, security settlements and performance reporting. She also has over 33 years of business experience relating to all aspects of office administration, accounting, bookkeeping duties and organizational skills.
Prior to moving to Toronto in 2008 to join Bluewater, Silvana lived in Huntsville, Ontario for 28 years working as a department manager for a fast growing company, while being a co-owner of a Septic business. She currently resides in Etobicoke and enjoys travelling, cooking and gardening.
Before joining Laurus in 2017, Michelle spent three years working at the portfolio management system company many of today’s investment firms, including Laurus, use to run the day-to-day portfolio management operations.
Prior to that, Michelle worked for 10 years in portfolio administration with a Toronto-based investment firm. This, along with her extensive knowledge of the Harmony system, led Michelle to become the lead person at Laurus on system support and special customized client projects.
